     oversized vehicle measurement

Mandli's Oversized Vehicle Measurement System (OVMS) is a cost-effective and safe method of collecting highly accurate measurement on vehicle height, length, and width. Vehicles are measured at highway speeds from a laser scanner mounted on an overhead structure at various points, such as over mainline highways, weigh stations, off-ramps, toll booths, etc. Real-time data is collected and transmitted remotely from the OVMS to a warning system or end-user.

The OVMS, if desired, can be further integrated into a 3-dimensional scan of the entire vehicle profile. This can provide pinpoint accuracy to any piece or part of the vehicle that protrudes beyond the legal limitations.

Steps of Operation

  1. Vehicles are driven under the scanning laser.
  2. Data from the laser is sent remotely to the system controller (usually a laptop computer).
  3. The maximum length, width, and height of the vehicle are displayed and reported in real-time on the system controller.

Features

  • Data collection at highway speeds
  • Accurate, repeatable results
  • Lightweight, portable unit mounted to existing overhead structures
  • Data monitored remotely, no hard-wiring required
  • Range of sensor up to 54 feet
  • Protective temperature-controlled housing for system
  • Allows states to check accuracy of permits in the field

Benefits

  • Helps prevent truck-bridge collisions, saving repair and clean up costs, and preventing traffic back-ups
  • Allows for accurate permitting of oversized vehicles by accurately measuring vehicle height, length, and width
  • Assists with law enforcement of vehicle in non-compliance of current permitting regulations, therefore also regaining lost revenue
