Flattened version of 360º rail image
Mandli's 360º images provide high-resolution panoramic views of railroad
crossings, including everything seen by train operators and pedestrians.
Full and partial obstructions of the tracks, as well as the condition of
signage at the crossing are also visible. A visual archive
of railroad conditions including field of view and signage is useful for
making safety improvements, for sorting out legal issues, and as a visual
verification of existing data reports. Our panoramic images provide a
complete view of each crossing, making them more useful than standard
field of view images.
The system consists of a high-resolution digital camera
(minimum 5.24 megapixel 2560 x 1920 resolution) that adjusts to the current
ambient lighting conditions, along with a special panoramic lens that are
mounted to the top of a collection vehicle on hi-rail. As the vehicle
encounters a
railroad crossing, the camera is manually triggered by an operator in the
passenger seat. The camera is configured such that the system can capture
a complete panoramic view with a single user command while the vehicle is
in motion. Data collection is therefore very safe and efficient. At
each crossing,
the image includes warning signs, street signs, right-of-way, and tracks.
Each 360º image can have a customized set of data tagged to it including fields such
as highway system and intersection highway, county name, direction, and survey date.
Our 360 View software is included with 360º imaging packages.
