Centerline mapping with Mandli's GPS system is an easy and accurate process that can be repeated frequently as railways expand. As an application of Mandli's rail system, data is collected at normal operating speeds from a customized vehicle installed on hi-rail, or from a system installed on a rail car.

The GPS system incorporates a high-end positioning system that uses strapdown inertial navigation, Kalman filtering, GPS, GPS azimuth measurement and a Distance Measurement Instrument (DMI), to provide position and orientation data that have a high bandwidth, excellent short-term accuracy and minimum long-term errors. It provides dynamically accurate, high-rate measurements of the full kinematic state of the data collection vehicle.
